I bet they were put in by hand. Anyway I had the same thing happen to me only in a very tight attic space-- it was a bear to fix. My face was in the insulation to work on it- memories I don't need.

The very top and the very bottom nails have the waxed paper that hold them into sticks bundled around the head. I still vote pneumatic.

I am going with a gun. Look at the bottom left nail and the top nail they have the paper on them that holds the strip together. Ether way. What a genus.
