Re: pa. journeyman exam prep
To: mrbigcash, you ask the question, "what NEC should I study for taking an exam for my license".
It all depends upon what state that you are taking the exam. For example in the state of Delaware, I would call the Electrical Licensing Board in Dover, Delaware. They would informed me what Code to study and when and where the exams are held. So, bottom-line, contact the Electrical licensing bureau in the state that you wish to get your license, and find out what NEC year that their test will be. Also, you need to find out what is expected at the time of taking your exam.
For example: In the state of New Jersey, they provide the NEC book and calculator for taking the exam. The testing agencys have certain rules and regulations. Another example, in the state of Delaware, you can take your Code book and your own calculator, but your code book cannot have any writing in the book. You can high-lite or underline any thing in the NEC that is important to you, but you cannot write any information in your book. The tabs that identify code sections need to be tabs that you purchase, they cannot be tabs that you would make up yourself.
With the calculator, it cannot be one where you can have programmed formulas.
I am an instructor at Delaware Technical & Community College, at the Stanton Campus, and one of the subjects that I teach is the NEC for men or woman who wish to take their exam for the Masters, or limited, etc.
Again, my strong advice to you, is to contact the state licensing bureau and get all of the pertinent information that you will need.
