Im looking for the article on where you can install a residential panel box. The article where it says, not in bathrooms, not in closets. Having trouble finding it.

panel box location

So no clothes closets, over stairs, or bathrooms. My builder wants the panel box in a utility closet that would also have the water heater in it. I suggested if chemicals or cleaning supplies could be stored in the same closet, that might not be acceptable. I guess you could store cleaning supplies anywhere though, and it doesnt say anything about cleaning supplies in 240.24. I'm in texas. Would that be a local jurisdiction thing or is there a steadfast rule about shelves that might provide storage for chemicals?

The panel box is often installed in utility areas. As long as you keep the adequate clearances there should be no issue. I doubt there is a local ordinance but check the amendments for Tx.

I am amused at 240.24 and how much attention the words "such as in clothes closets" gets and how little attention the title (which is even in bold) "Not in Vicinity of Easily Ignitable Material" gets ignored every time a breaker panel gets installed in a garage. Heck if that title was taken to heart one couldn't put a outdoor panel in a place where tall weeds are common, once those dry out they are as easily ignitable as anything can be.
