So does that mean the "wrong way" ones don't exist?
No, just that most of the houses I've worked on with K&T in Richmond, many of which are pre- or post-Civil War era, were originally built without electricity. They all had the switching done in the ungrounded conductor. A lot of them started out being wired with single circuits, with both conductors fused.
