Panel clearance:

We are trying to figure out the depth of a wall [or clearance behind] a panel? Where does it say how much room behind a panelboard is necessary? I remember the dry wallers having to fir out for panels & was wondering if there is a distance between the back of a panel & the sheetrock.
Thanks again

Is there anything in the code that says there must be a space behind the panel for venting [heat] or for no screws coming thru from the other side of the wall. I just remember the drywall guys gryping about having to build the wall out.

One of the reasons for firring out the walls was because of the depth of the panelboard in a wall of lesser depth.

Greg recessed panels usually screw in on the sides not thru the back.
