Just wondering if there is any violation when someone replaces a panel cover with one from a different manufacturer. In this case, I was called out to check on some issues with breakers tripping and was caught off guard when I pulled the cover off of a panel and realized it was a Square D Homeline cover on an old GTE Sylvania panel. What fooled me was the appearance of a bunch of extra spaces with the Zinsco-style breakers. The Sylvania panel sticker with all the information was taped to the inside of the Square D cover. What was really odd was how well it fit! But they did drill holes in places to make it work as far as the mounting hardware was concerned.

Any takers on this one??

Any modification to the listed product without approval is a violation and also preempts the manufacturer's warranty. This even applies to interchanging breakers from different manufacturer's. (I.e. SQ D to Zinsco if that could ever happen..etc.) rbj

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Works for me. Of course it doen't matter what I think. I'm sure some nutty inspector would blow his top if he saw this.

The installation of breakers of other manufacturer's that have been classified for use in the panel does not void the panel warranty, per federal law.

Thanks Don. I agree but I know of one famous manufacturer that will disagree with the Fed breakup of sole-sourcing and accepting liability.
