I've always installed a panel gfi on new services but I've never seen or heard of an actual reference in the code book that requires a panel gfci on a new service is this code and where can i find it or is this just builder preference?? Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks guys

I rolled up on a job out in Gawd's country w/o a temp service back 'when' ......they were running everything off an outside receptacle on a neighboring property

since that day, the panel gfci does all the required outside receptacle outlets

Its not a code requirement, unless the area requires it. Since its for other trades, I would put it in, then at trim out can remove and reuse, unless the area, IE a garage, requires GFCI.

In the 2020 code, 210.63(B) requires a receptacle at the service equipment and 210.8(E) requires that receptacle have GFCI protection. This rule does not apply to one or two family dwelling unit services.
