residental panel....200 amp main....20 circuit...has 11 piggyback breakers and 4 two pole breakers...customer wants a subpanel...adding a 50 amp load via hot tub! able to redirect wiring to subpanel and free up space for another 2 pole breaker in main panel. Question: label on main panel states "AC 1 phase 3 wire 150 amp" Main breaker is 200 amp...cable from meter to panel is 4/0 alum...could the main breaker have gone bad and been replaced with a larger amperage breaker...or did someone just replace the guts with an upgrade and use the same can...neglecting to replace the label? homeowner has no idea about upgrade! House has 2100 sq. ft. of living space...2 heat/air units...elec stove...water heater...etc. panel id: gould..GQ16MBA..I-T-E..Indoor load center...breaker id: ITE 4-pole...EQ-9483 200amp
anyone ever run across this?

Re: panel identification

Its very possible the main breaker is too large for the rating of the panel busses. I would get the mfg's catalogs and check it.

Re: panel identification

tom....searching the internet for possible info on this panel....house is 20 plus years old....homeowner has lived there for 3 years and has no knowledge of upgrading or any other elec repairs...will look further, elec supply houses, etc. the paper label is located on the door of the panel...no other id is visible...thanks, wildman
