So I will be installing a 100 amp panel this weekend. The panel will be outdoors and will be fed from an exisiting meter box about 50 ft away. Right now the meter box is feeding an existing 100 amp panel about 500 feet away.
What I want to ask of you highly electrical wizards is if I can install 2 double sided lug on the load side of the meter and run the feed for the new 100 amp panel?

Generally, no,because it's changing an assembly, but may be allowed.

I'd start with asking the POCO. Do you know the meter base rating?

100a meter pan the load side is configured for a wire, not a lud. I don't think there would be room to come off a short piece of wire to a lug to accomadate two wires

I doubt splicing would be allowed in a meter base at all.

You'd need either a double-lug meter base (probably have to go to a 320/400a) or a splice box below the meter.

Agree. Other than the splicing logistics in the meter base, this would be acceptable under 230.40 exception #3. I am making an assumption that this applies, OP should confirm.

Adding a 100 amp panel to an existing 100 amp servcie I'm assuming that you've done a load calculation?
