Panel job

I have a Main 200A 3 phase 42 circuit 120/208. The buss bar is arced in a few spots. I priced the job on just replacing the main not the sub . I would be using tandems because not enough space (, the new panel does except tandems ). What is the thought for using tandems in a new panel?

You are no longer limited to 42 OCPD in a panel. Tandems were used to add circuits....
I seldom use tandems, but my work is in small pump stations with only a few circuts

The only other way out of using tandems is to sell him a 42 circuit sub panel. Which I don't think he will go for.

I looked into that it's a Gould panel, my supplier billows said they don't make a retrofit interior kit for that panel

There aren't any abandoned circuits or circuits that can be combined?

I would try to sell him a larger and new subpanel - the next time he wants to add a circuit, or the sub panel buss bar burns a spot, he'll have to do it anyway... tho you'd have to relocate a bit of conduit on the right side of that main to do it.

As to your question, I dont have an issue with tandems.

The new panel is a 60 circuit 42 space panel. Thanks I just realized I wrote that on my original post

I gave him a price for both panels also and explained to him they should be replaced. He just wants the problem panel replaced. And yes I found 1 circuit abandoned
