We are designing a commercial interior buildout for a shoe store. The main panel is in the back room within 5' of a kitchenette sink. The electrician tells us that "code" requires a watersource to be a min 5' from edge of panel. I can't find that "code" anywhere. Any help?

Re: Panel location near water source

As Bryan quoted not an NEC requirement but just make sure working clearances meet 110.26

Re: Panel location near water source

As others have mentioned not a code violation. ask the electrician to give you the section of the NEC.

I think chances are the electrician didn't feel comfortable installing the panel so close to the sink, and so he used "it's against code" as a reason to move it.

Looks like you've called his bluff. :)
