I have an engineering firm saying to put a sub panel in a residential attic space. There is walk up access w/ a door at the top of the stairs. The space is unfinished w/ insulation at the floor joists only. I thought for sure over current protection devices were not allowed in attics, clothes closets and bathrooms. I look for 3 hours last night and only found Art. 110.11 .....conductors or equipment not to be exposed to excessive heat, and Art. 240 24 (C) reference to FPN 110.11 (D) not in the vicinity of easily ignitable material i.e. clothes closets.

Re: panel location

I think this is a legal installation, provided only that there is sufficient working clearance in front of the panel.

Re: panel location

The only issue I can see is that it might be inconvenient for the homeowners to get at them. But that is not a code issue IMO.

Re: panel location

THanks for the comments..... There is enough room for all clearances and access is just up a flight of stairs from 2nd floor hall.
