I am an Industrial Controls Engineer and I am designing a panel with a PLC, DC Power Supply, Safety Relay, Light Curtain and laptop convenience receptacle. Incoming voltage to the panel will be cutomer supplied 120 volts 15 amps through a standard wall outlet. It is my understanding that the control components I mentioned do not need to be taken into consideration for the SCCR value, however I am unsure about the laptop convenience receptacle. Would this be considered a power circuit or a control circuit?? If it is a control circuit, do we need to provide labels that classify this as a control circuit. Labeling this in general, does this hurt or help me.

Darrin,
You are correct about the receptacle and needs to be taken into consideration when preforming your overall SCCR . You need do several things here. Usually the SCCR of a standard recetacle is 200-500amps., Hubbel makes on rated at 10,000amps. I would put a fuse in front of that rated to 3-5 amps (Class CC usually) and label the receptacle "Lap top use only" or " diagnostics Only". That should fix your concerns.
Just my $.02
