Potentially working my first panel swap - not an actual service replacement. My question is, do you have to add AFCIs due to the swap? In this potential job, it just requires a new panel - no new SE cable.

It should be grandfathered in due to it was legal when installed and they cant make you bring the house up to current nec code. That being said ask your ahj because you never know what they might do legal or not:grin:

Oh, really ?

Not if you have to damage t do it. Take 2wire circuits for example. It was legal and still is. If you dont extend the circuit its legal. Same with a range cable. There may be exceptions to that but as a rule no they cant.
