Several years ago, I was in a school that had panels with an integral contactor located behind the dead front. It controlled breakers in the upper half of the panel, while the lower section remained hot. These were used for science rooms and what had been industrial arts rooms with EPO buttons for the equipment. Anybody know who makes these? Nomenclature?

They may have been GE, can't remember now. They seemed to work well for the science labs, and shop equipment circuits without killing the whole panel. The center section of the dead front had a large rectangular cutout as the contactor was housed behind a separate cover(if I remember correctly).

We still use and install them, generally on a job that requires something like this you are having the panels built anyway so it is just an option. Same as specifying certain breakers be included in the panel build.
