The distance from the back of a cabinet that holds a panelboard to a wall in a damp or wet location needs to be 1/4" for an air gap.

Take a look at 312.2.

There are usually dimples on the mounting holes that make this compliant without adding anything to the mounting.

Agreed, cabinets that are listed for use in damp and wet locations will usually have the dimples on the back of the box to provide the air gap.
