 just a quick question, we are mounting a new panel for a remodel and the location shows it on a cooler wall in the restaurant, in the back of the restaurant of course. Is there any code against this? I can't find one, although it is not a true wall and the cooler can be removed from the restaurant since it is of the walk-in type.

Re: panelboard location

Certainly hope its okay. I just had a small 208Y/120V. panelboard mounted on the side of both a walk-in cooler & a walk-in freezer in a "commercial" kitchen area.
The branch ckts. from each panelboard are dedicated to the respective walk-in.
Even checked with the supplier/vendor of the walk-ins. He said, in essence, "no problema".

Re: panelboard location

Boy does that bring back memories. As an apprentice twenty-some odd years ago, the day #1 son was born, we were troubleshooting a circuit that kept tripping a 20 amp breaker in a Square D panel in a cooler in a grocery store. Intermittant tripping. Got the clamp-on ammeter out, it read a steady 21 amps, and when the meat cutter would run the saw, it would jump up to 26 or so and finally trip. The journeyman's pager went off, "It's time", an hour later "It's a boy.".Never got back there. They must of split up the load. Thanx for the flashback.

Re: panelboard location

great story, thanks for that. I did end up mounting the panel on unistrut, shallow 7/8ths. I thought that it would be easier also, and this way i used 1 and 5/8ths on top to strap the pipe. It all worked out good in the end. :D
