Panelboard

We have a job site where wall space is tight. The engineer has requested that we mount a 480 volt 45 kva dry type transformer on the floor, then mount a 200 amp panel board directly above the transformer at the front of the transformer. The backside of the panel board would now be about three feet from the wall. Would this be a code violation?

Although not a code violation per se, think about the heat rising into the panelboard.

You can mount it like in the photo that Jumper posted or if you're concerned about the heat you can mount the transformer above the panel.

Just so we are clear, I was only addressing the NEC and 110.26 stuff. I swiped that pic from some thread, not my install.

That said, the heat from the tranny on the ambient temp affecting the breakers in a panel mounted above it should definitely be considered.

Not the best design by any means, but OP said space was tight so maybe this could work.
