Let me give you a bit more information. There is no "formula." There is a "process." It starts by listing all the loads that are supplied by the panel. You add the loads. You sometimes get to reduce the load, because it is not likely that all loads will be turned on at the same time. The "demand factors" are different for dwelling units and for other specific types of buildings. The process is contained in NEC Article 220, as Roger pointed out.
