Parallel 2 or more smaller amperage breakers to get higher capacity.

Came across this. Now he made a statement at about 7 minutes in to the effect that if you don't have a 100Amp breaker you can parallel 2- 50 amp or 4-25 amp and then have 100Amp protection. Really?
Never considered as possible, always if need 50 amp get a 50 amp breaker. Or, is this what GE is doing with the quad 200A breaker, using 4- 50 amp breakers?

 
Have done it many times for temp power on a construction site. Guy comes in with a welder and needs 40 amp breaker which you don't have so you parallel 20 amp CBs together.
 
Then there is the one who uses 2- 2pole breakers for a 240V 3Ø load, & they are not straight 240V rated breakers either.
