For me it's usually all about costs.
One example would be for certain (not all) 400 amp services which are drawn with one set of (4) #500 KCMIL Copper in 4" EMT. You could substitute the one set with two sets of (4) #3/0 KCMIL Copper and reduce your material costs by nearly 1/3.
Man up! I like to bend the bigger wire as it saves me a trip to the gym. :grin:Not to mention ease of installation
