Using a cable tray system with multiple PVC Coated MC Cable assemblies. All cable assemblies are copper. My question: There is a 3-phase 600amp load. Can you use a 3c-350 cable assembly in parallel? The ground conductor in the manufactured cable is only a #3 bare.

It is my understanding you cannot use this due to the ground size is not adequate. The ground has to full size, which would be a #1.

However if the cable tray is bonded properly could you use the tray as the equipment ground?

Either that or a separate EGC. It has been debated here on the forum before without consensus. I don't see a problem with it, but the only way you'll know for sure is to get an official ruling from your AHJ.

You can obtain MC with grounding conductors oversized to match the OCP device.

I have taken that to reference some tray cables that have multiple grounding conductors in somewhat of a concentric l wrap. I do not have the 2014ROPs handy. Do you see that as allowing
individual conductors in parallel MCs to be smaller than 250.122 allows ?
