Paralleling of Transformers

Hi!

May I ask if anyone has procedures on how to parallel two identical transformers? A manual in pdf would help a lot as we are about to implement such and it is our first time to do it in our area (industrial park)

Transformers are commonly placed in parallel service. For maximum efficiency, voltage and impedance values must match closely for each transformer involved. Failing to match voltage and impedance will cause unbalanced loading for the transformers and may lead to overheating or premature failure.
It is best to use identical transformers. As I The application notes provided me by a transformer design engineer recommends that the impedance of each transformer be within 7.5% of each other in order to keep the load balance between both units to acceptable limits. One transformer may end up "hogging" the load otherwise.

Theoretically it is correct. I would not venture paralleling the transformers without manufacturer guarantee . It would be out of control if they do not mach perfectly.

You might want to look into "network protectors" as well. When you have two or more transformers in parallel, a fault within one could cause a failure of the second, unless there is protection in place. It is similar to a "reverse power relay," as is used when two or more generators are in parallel. If one transformer starts taking in large amounts of power from the remainder of the network, it is an indication of a failure, and the "network protector" opens the circuit from that transformer.

By the way, asking us to give you a complete instruction manual that tells you everything you need to know is a bit out of line. We can help with specific questions. We can point to information sources. But we won't do your job for you.

Make sure your breakers can handle the increase in available fault current and you have directional relays on your mains.

Please note that we were not informed of the type of transformer, Drytype, liquid? The KVA, nor the primary or secondary voltage. No information was provided with regard to the existing transformer to bhe paralleled.
