Mike, you typically state not to install ground rods at parking lot lights. We have a location where ground rods are installed, which is fairly common. Should the equipment grounding conductors from the conduit be connected to the ground conductor from the ground rod, or should the conductor from the ground rod go strictly to the pole, and the conduit ground conductor go strictly to the light fixtures?

Re: Parking lot lighting

Mike Holt does not often answer questions on this Forum. The rest of the membership usually does a good enough job. I don't think I have heard (or read about) him saying "don't do it." But I have heard (and read about) him saying that it serves no purpose.

But to answer your question, I would go with everything after your ". . . or should . . . ."

Re: Parking lot lighting

Everything must be bonded together: EGC, rod, pole and fixure.
Remember that a ground rod is incabable of clearing a fault at low voltages. To rely soley on a ground rod for fault clearing is a code violation and extremely dangerous.
