Is there anyway to test metal halid light bulbs without having them energized. I have alot of expensive 1000watt bulbs that i would like to test if possible

Maybe set up a fixture on a bench? I don't really think there's any meter tests you can do to determine if the lamp is good. You can do some meter tests to determine if a lamp is definately bad, but nothing definative to say it's good.

Purchase a Greenlee 5715. Retails at $329, but you can probably find one on Fleabay for less. I have one and it works great. It's about the size of 4 packs of ciggies and operates on batteries. Best used in the bucket 35feet up.

Greenlee 5715

Edit to add: You mean I have a tool Marc doesn't have?????

Yeah, but mine's from BHEA, who is the OEM for that product from Greenlee. I think it's a total piece of junk on HID lamps. It will make the lamp glow, which is no guarantee that it will completely illuminate in a fixture.
