If they are brand new I would check:

That the ballast is matched to the lamp

That the ballast, cap, igniter socket are wired correctly

That the supply voltage matches the ballast

#1 reason is a bad lamp.

HPS lamps tend to cycle on/off when they are bad.

#2 reason is the light shines on the photo cell :D

these lights are controlled by a time clock
Is the light shining on the time clock? :)

These aren't RUUD Lighting fixtures, by chance, are they? I had that issue with a passel of them at a Denny's restaurant, and they would only work properly with Venture brand lamps for whatever stupid reason.

i'd bet they are controlled by a time clock to a photocell...this causes the photo to go into test mode when the time clock turns on...best way to run this setup is to refeed the clock motor...then run the lighting control circuit through the photocell, then through the tc terminals....this keeps the photocell from going into test mode....

yeah i ran into few of that as well., but i know they oringally used to shipped with GE bulbs then later switch lamp manuacaters sometime it really tick me off a little so i have to keep few Venture lamps on hand [ pretty common with the 320 et 350's]

I agree with 200/221 that the bulbs are bad. When the bulbs start getting bad they overheat causing the themal overtemp switch in the bulb to turn off the lamp. When it cools down after about 10 minutes, it kicks back on. Like majic.

If there is photo cell in the circuit I would check the wiring of it. If line and load are reversed it will do what the OP is stating.
I've seen it several times.

I was going to guess the same thing.

It would be nice to have the last posting reserved for the op to say what the problem or solution was to his problem. I need closure. :-?

I agree. They always want our help figuring out the problem, but then never let us know if we were right or not.

Sometimes I press people by PM about how something or other was resolved. About 50% of the time, they found out that the situation wasn't exactly as they described in the opening post, and they're embarrassed that the thread went so long with incorrect original information. Certainly I don't know if that's the case here or not, but that is some people's reason for laying low afterwards.
