Pass and Seymour makes a "plugtail" receptical. Are these recepticals tamper resistant? Does anyone use the "plugtail" method of roughing? They seem interesting

JJ

They are more of a commercial type product from what I have seen of them. Very pricey, and I have not seen them in TR yet but we are under 05' so TR around here in a normal receptacle is 5 bucks each.

Saw them at Electric West last year. Looks like a time saver to beat the band to me.

ive used some, they were hubbel but same thing. one of our customers started useing them about a year ago since then ive put quite a few in.

like mark said they are fast when it comes to trim time. i like the little bags on the pigtails too, keeps the paint and mud off everything.

i havent seen switches like this, does anyone know if they make them?

I think the question here should be: "Are the labor savings enough to offset the increased price of the material?"

If you cant teach a green helper how to wire a receptacle with an hour or 2 training then something is wrong. What exactly is the cost ? A good electrician can install 10 in an hour by wiring them so these better lot faster or price kill you.

A local hospital, where we have been doing work for years, requires us to install them. Yes, they do come in TR and hospital grade. They're nice to use.

We recently did a dorm for Ohio Dominican and used them. The JW put in the pigtails on rough so all splices were made up. We had apprentices install the devices and plates on trim. I don't think that it was as much about saving total time but in saving on the cost of labor. Defective units can be swapped hot without any trouble (a few GFCI's).
As far as I know, they don't make switches yet.

I would have said about the same as what Lcdr's response was here, but to answer and responsd to your poll started earlier,
well said!

With most all my construction, the answer to always pigtail in receptacles and switches. It's in the specifactions for new construction.(where required). These seem to fit the bill.

The plug-in is kinda skippy... The Office seems to love them they keep showing up on jobs.
