Just took the general WA electrical admin. test today.

The First part is 65 questions code 4 hour time limit

Very easy, the questions actually followed chronologically with the code book. Made it nice. A few theory calc questions. Bring a Ugly's book with you.

The second part was 17 questions on WAC and RCW with 1 hour time limit.

A little more challenging. I spent a lot of time reading through them and highlighting main areas. Try to be familiar with where most things are located. Some questions on continuing ed, electrical board, appeal processes with time limits.

The third part was 10 questions on major calcs with 2 hours time limit.

Definitely the hardests.
2 questions on duplex calcs using standard method.
2 questions on multi-family (20 units & 40 units) optional method, no house or laundry loads.
1 question on feeder overcurrent size for 4 motors, using inverse time breaker.
1 question on amount of 20 amp 120v recepts required for 2000sq. ft Church
1 question on amount of 15 amp 120v recepts required for 4000sq. ft single family residence.
1 question on demand for 3 ovens and a cooktop all between 8.75-12kw
1 question on 2 tenant industrial building with a variety of loads.
Can't remember the last question...

Of the 10, the load calc for the 2 tenant industrial was extreme. I spent 25 min on it and wasn't close to their answers...so I guessed.
On the 2 duplex questions, one of them I was unable to get close to their answers, so again, with time running low...I guessed.

I was hoping to just get 7/10...but some how got 9/10...go figure?

Anyways, if anyone wants anymore specifics...reply back or PM me.

In Washington State, the adminstrator is the person responsible for permits and complying the laws. The adminstrator must be a full time supervisory employee of the company, but does not have to be an electrician. Any one can be an adminstrator.
The pass rate on the adminstrator exam is 13%
We now have a master electrician certification which is a journeyman + adminstrator. Many master electricians were grandfathered, but effective July 1, 2005 there is now an exam for Master.
I am not a journeyman or adminstator, but am a master electrician, which requires 16,000 hours of experience to qualify for the test.
I don't know what the pass rate is on the master electrician exam, its new and most won't bother with it.
The advantage of the master certification is there is only one certification to renew.

Just passed as well.

Just passed as well.

I just happened to pass the Washington Administrator's test last Friday. I found the test to be very straight forward and had no difficulty with any portion of the test. The code portion, which I got a 95 on, was taken verbatim from the NEC; no exceptions were used. The WAC/RCW portion, which I got a 100 on, was exactly the same; no curve balls of any kind. The calculations portion, which I got a 90 on, consisted of very basic calculations; honestly, I feel that a third year apprentice would have no difficulty passing this exam. Of course my efforts in studying for and passing the Oregon Supervisor's exam, which is a completely different animal, certainly allowed me to be successful with the Washington Admin. test.

And yes, after talking with a creditable source in the Washington Chief's office, there is indeed some sore feelings between Oregon and Washington; basically Oregon is just a little too proud of their electrical program to reciprocate with Washington. Don't look for any reciprocity any time soon on any level.
