Passed the Idaho/Wyoming Journeyman ICC exam for the state of Wyoming. I have an opportunity to work in Alaska, a state which reciprocates with Wyoming but you have to have your Journeyman license for 1 year, so I am forwarding proof of work hours to Alaska with an application to take their exam. I was told Alaska writes their own exam & all questions are taken from the 2002 NEC. Alaska allows only the 2002 NEC Paperback with tabs and highlighting only- no notes or handwritten markings, and no other reference materials. Has anyone taken this exam? Are there any calculation problems, or is it all finding answers in the NEC? :?:

I'm scheduled to take the Ak test in June. Here is what I know about it, 100 questions on the 2002 code (50 t/f, 50 multiple guess), 4 hour time limit, you can have a calculator and a codebook (I dont have any idea if they dont allow a spiral codebook). Test every wednesday at the mech inspection office on Eagle St. in Anchorage (testing in other cities may have a different schedule), starts at nine be there by 8:30 and know your definitions. If anybody knows of some Ak practice tests available I would appreciate it.

Thanks guys, yes it is a tough exam. I know several that took the exam more than once before passing. Arne Electro-Tech, out of Rapid City, South Dakota provides electrician exam preparation classes-He schedules them in various cities across South Dakota and Wyoming. (We used Mike Holts ?Electrical NEC Exam Preparation? book in class). www.AETech.com Steve Arne covered a lot of material during the 2 day class-Motor calculations, raceway & box calculations, voltage drop calculations, dwelling unit calculations, conductor sizing & protection calculations, etc. After the class I purchased Mike Holt's ?Journeyman Simulated Exam?, and ?Understanding the NEC Vol. 1 & 2;? and studied them at the house. After completing and mastering Mike Holt's ?Journeyman Simulated Exam?, (which covered theory, code, and calculations) at home; the exam questions were not so intimidating. 8)

k5brad, I am with you- some Ak practice tests would be appreciated.

Yeah the Wyoming test is hard. Hardest one I've ever taken, I've passed Wy, Co and Va and that Wy was a ?!@#%! I don't know why they make the test the way they do, not like others I've taken.
