Pathway for Fiber Optic Cable

On a project that I?m working on I have to install SM fiber from one equipment cabinet to another equipment within the same room. The engineer wants to run innerduct that will be exposed (no false ceiling) between the cabinets. The innerduct will be supported from exposed I-Beams in the room. Now I?ve used innerduct before but it was either placed within a duct system between buildings or on a cable tray or in a cable trough inside a building. In reading Section 770 of the NEC I do not see this as a code violation. I would rather run EMT or RNC between the 2 equipment cabinets and then pull the fiber.

As far as the NEC is concerned, I think you can do anything you want with fiber and whatever you choose to put it in. Its not electric.

If you're going from one rack/cabinet to another in the same room, you need not run the fiber in anything.

Also, if you install a decent amount of fiber, coax, and copper assemblies, give me an opportunity to quote it for you. Thanks

Steve,
You might want to take a look at Article 770.

Oops, my dog ate that article. I guess I should of looked at 90.2 also. Other than the fact that some cables might be combustible, and that some may have conductive coverings, I really don't see how fiber optic cables are a safety issue.

What's next? Article 773 - Mouse Pad Requirements?

Re: Pathway for Fiber Optic Cable

it not a safety issue untill someone cuts or kinks the cable. We use it as a cheap alternitive to emt.
