Patient are w/pvc

I have a "pony" wall in a clinic that is free standing and has to have a network for receptacles to supply equipment that is located in areas for patient care. I was told to install pvc under the slab to provide a raceway to this wall, and then to pipe in emt from the pvc to the home run. I say this is wrong. It does not provide for a means of redundant ground in patient areas. The building is being wired in medical grade "MC" Cable for the branch circuits.

Re: Patient are w/pvc

Our local inspectors allow pvc to be used as a sleeve and to install hospital grade AC in it. You are correct about the need for redundant grounding per 517.13. Using the pvc as a sleeve and not a part of the conduit system still maintains redundant grounding. I suspect that not all AHJ's would accept this though.

Are any of these circuits fed from the Emergency System? If so, you would need to use Jim Walkers method.
