Patient care lighting

Are light fixtures in patient care areas subject to the return path grounding if they are over 7.5 feet? The branch circuit feeding the switches and switch legs are wired with HG type MC cable but I used regular MC cable for the whips.

517-13 A, b exception #2

That exception only permits you to omit the insulated copper EGC. The sheath of the wiring method must still qualify as an equipment grounding conductor. So you can't use standard MC for whips to lights in a patient care area.

If you had used regular AC for the fixtures you would have been fine.
