Is there any place in the NEC that says anything about putting a permanent label in or on the service panel when "NON-METAL PLUMBING" is installed?

Any idea where this "requirement" came from?

Not the NEC,

I searching it for "plumb", "plumb*" and "plumbing" and got 4 hits: 225.6, 545.2, 550.2 and 551.46(E) exception. None refer to anything remotely resembling the OP question.

Well realboss I see you are in AZ. I know every house I see with plastic supply piping has a label or a hand written (with a sharpie) "Non Metallic Plumbing" sign inside the panel. I thought it might be a city ammendment (Tucson) or maybe just put there to keep the inspector from failing it for not seeing a water bond. You guys in other parts of the country have to realize, we have no basements. You cannot tell if a house has non metallic piping by just "looking around". The outdoor spigots and the water heater pipes will be copper stub outs, everything in the walls will be PEX.

But why would it matter if someone didn't know that the piping was plastic?

Yes we have always used a sticker with the NON-Metalic Plumbing" on it on the inside panel door but the city of Goodyear just sent out a meno stating it must be a (Metal label riveted on the dead front) so i tried finding something in the NEC and could not find it, so it is probably a city ammendment.
