I have outpatient clinic such as Kaiser Permanente which has Operating rooms, recover rooms etc. However, I am working on Pharmacy fillstation dispensing area and have receptacles on critical branch backed by generator.

Question:
1. Would fill station dispensing where receptacles are support, critical, or general patient care area?

2. Would the receptacle dispensing area require Hospital grade?

Are patients treated in this area? Chances are dispensing means they fill prescriptions for nursing staff to take to the patient in other rooms, making this not a patient care room and not subject to anything in art 517 other than possibly the need for certain items to be on emergency system if deemed necessary.

I think you should find out if the pharmacy fillstation supports the recovery area. If it does then that area can have more immediate needs because unexpected complications can arise. The operating room normally already has all meds needed for planned procedures on carts. I'm making these comments after consulting an aquaintance who was a pharmacist in a hospital for many years. She suggested you try to get more specific information on the fillstation functional requirements from hospital staff if you can.

Without looking, as 517 is not my area, I would suspect there is a section in 517 that specifies where hospital grade receptacles are required. Have you looked for this requirement?

AFAIK hospital grade receptacles are only required at "patient bed locations" which is defined in 517.2 as ...a patient sleeping bed, or the bed or procedure table....

If patients are not in this pharmacy area I don't see it as a patient bed location or even a 517 application other than it or portions of it may be deemed necessary to be on the essential system.
