Hi Guy's before posting my question i would like to thank everyone for all the help i have recieved from this forum. OK here it is, i have a customer who has a 40 yard compactor on the property. The customer has a 240v single phase motor driving the compactor. The compactor co. told my customer that the single phase motor isn't strong enough and she would need to upgrade to a 3 phase motor. Problem is she doesn;t have 3 phase coming in to the biulding. Can anyone help me with a place to buy a phase converter or has anyone done something like this before and can pass on any advice. I talked to the local electrical supply house around here and they don't sell anything like this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:)

It will likly be cheaper to pay the compactor company to custom order a pump with a higher HP single phase motor in place than a phase converter will cost.

But you can get phase converters, there are many types each with advantages and disadvantages.

Also many three phase VFDs can be supplied single phase but produce a three phase output.

I agree but they customer really is sold on this 3 phase motor idea. I told her about a higher hp motor, but she is adement on istalling a 3 phase motor.

Call your VFD supplier and explain the horsepower and voltages you need. He will need to contact the manufacturer's engineering department. I have a 1/2 HP 480 volt three phase motor i run on a single phase 20 amp appliance circuit . No moving parts and a heck of lot more efficient.
