Phase identification for branch circuits

I have a exhaust fan on a roof, 480v 3 phase plus ground. I pulled 3 #12 browns plus a green for my ground. I know I cannot re identify 6 and smaller for a grounded conductor. Can I phase tape two of the browns to purple and yellow and identify the phase? Is it even required for me to phase the conductors out? I do not see anything about this in the book. There is no other voltage system in this run of wire. Thanks

Read 210.5(C) and 215.12(C) (using the 2011 NEC) for which might be applicable.

Thanks for the fast reply, using 210.5 (c1) If reading this correctly yes I do need to have phase identification and yes it is permisable with tape. So I should be alright with what I'm doing as long as I tape it. I've gotten mixed answers from different electricians throughout the years and it finally came up again today.

Just requires unique identification. Method is pretty much up to you. Do note, however, the requirement includes some type of plaque at the panels denoting the type identification.
