LMK What you think fellow electrical engineers. Personally, I have no cue what the difference between a 1 phase and 2 phase XFMR. Alright, now; GET BACK TO WORK
 
True "2 phase" systems are very rare and likely unavailable for any new installations.
As Larry states, 3 phase is best for commercial, industrial due mostly to efficenciey and installation costs. .
There are often more utility associated costs on 3 phase systems and in many residential setting 3 phase isn't even available so for residential and smaller loads you will normally only see single phase.
