Today while installing some recess trims, I opened a new case of Philips 75 watt PAR 30 long neck lamps. When I opened the box the lamp had tag on the neck stating not to remove the yellow dots. I saw the lamp had three amber plastic stick on dots evenly spaced around the edge of the lamp. It was also stamped on the lamp not to remove yellow dots. Anyone no what this is about?

Re: Philips lamps ?

Would the dots keep the lamp surface from contacting the fixture trim surface? Most lamps have a warning to keep the lamp from touching the trim. Would the dots prevent touching?

Re: Philips lamps ?

I noticed this about a year ago so decided to call Phillips to see what they were for. I was told that they had developed a longer life filament but the adhesive that is used to hold the lens of the lamp on was failing before the filament causing the lens to drop off. Their solution was to install these yellow dots that supposedly will help hold the lens on. I?m not sure how they can do that since they peel off very easily but maybe they fuse on to the lamp from the heat after it is used. My solution was to return the lamps and not use Phillips PAR lamps anymore.

Curt,
Thanks for you reply. This sounds like a Band-aid fix for a major problem. I think I will take your advice and change brands. I do like the finish look of the Philips, but without the yellow dots.
