"In the United States 1 REN was formerly equivalent to a 6930Ω resistor in series with an 8 ?F (microfarad) capacitor. The modern ANSI/TIA-968-B specification (August 2009) defines 1 REN as an impedance of 7000Ω at 20Hz (type A), or 8000Ω from 15Hz to 68Hz (type B)."

If you can find a relay that pulls in at less than 90 vac with coil specs as above coupled with a capacitor as above you have your interface circuit.

The picture shows both models. The model CRT-T-40 is not explosion proof and I assure you that it costs nowhere near $300.00. It is just enclosed in a round aluminum can. We use them all the time.

Well I never use them, I glanced at the page and it said explosionproof.

I've used these Wheelock Series WR Warbles before, but don't remember the cost:
