I did a little kit remodel yesterday and the guy removed a soffit exposing a phone wire that became to "short" to go into the wall( because it did an angle inside the soffit from ceiling to wall and now with no soffit it was too short). Hope that makes sense.

So this wire is one of those 10 or so pair with no overall jacket installed in the early 70's and looped to tons of locations that are generally covered by drywall.(not sure why they did this but I run into it quite often). So anyhow I pull out the staples pull the loop up to get enough slack and put the loop up out of the way in the ceiling. In the process one of the conductors broke so I spliced it up and put it in the ceiling, where it will be buried forever. I am not too famliar with low-volt stuff but I had a bad feeling about this probably because it couldn't be neat like I like stuff and the 1 spliced wire wont be accsesible. So I was wondering if someone could help ease my mind here. Obviously this is not ideal but do we have any safety concerns or code violtions here? Thanks for reading the long post.

Re: Phone wire.

It will be ok.Have a few beers and get a good nights sleep. As long as you feel the splice is good then no problems.Unlike highvoltage it can be barried

Re: Phone wire.

I agree with the others, rest easy.

With 'ten or so pairs' the loss of one conductor will be no big deal.
