Hi guys we do design build projects and I am finding it more and more like Im at the mercy of my vendors to try and get photo metric studys done correctly and back quickly so I dont hold up the design procces. Does anyone know of a good photometric program that wont cost me 10 grand that will work with CAD or a stand alone that will use .dwg or .dfx files.

Im looking for something that I can use layers off a .cad program to be able to plug in the IES data put in the perameters and it would spit out the foot candles. More and more cities are requireing this around here for egress lighting and parking lots to make sure that there is not lighting being spilled onto adjacent properties. Sometimes it happens and I use Bounty "the quicker light spill picker upper"

We use the print, that the program generates and all the related charts for levels and coverage, did you try it out? our accounts like the way they present the data and dwg.

Photometric Software

Try "Visual" by Acuity Brands Lighting

http://www.visual-3d.com/

The software is free, but you will need to contact a vendor for a serial number.

I have used this software for years as a consulting engineer. This is not the best or most powerful program, but works for most applications.

You can import an ACAD plan, plug in any IES files either through downloading specific manufacturers files, or using files that come with the software.
