Can a photo voltaic system "grid connected system", once inverted from DC to AC connect to an existing utility fed system via "back fed" through a panel board which is not the main panelboard? Meaning, a house with a detached garage with a separate 125 amp main breaker be back fed by a 4.6KW generating system to feed back to a 200 amp main breaker/metered service?

Most PV Inverters are designed to shutoff if they do not detect AC coming in from the line. They have to be designed that way to be UL listed for Grid-connect capability.

Now... saying that... you should make sure that whatever inverter you are looking to buy for the system MUST have that. The only other way I could see for this to be ok to code would be using a ATS.

Im ok with the inverter shutting down when the grid goes down. But the op asked if he can connect the inverter output at a location other than the service eq.??

If your question is can you back feed the sub panel with the PV system, the answer is yes 690.64(B) says...
"at any distibution equipment on the premises"
