After doing some research I think I know what you are talking about "I think"
Phonton generator = Fiber-Optic pool lighting system.
The generator is the light source for the fiber. some call it the power supply but thats a little off. most use a 400 watt metel hailide bulb and ballest.
Ok Do I have it?
If I do the light source has to be at least 5' from the inside wall of the pool but the fiber optics can be installed right into the pool as since they are dielectric there is no shock hazard.
also since most of these units plug in they are required to be GFCI protected
680.6 and 680.22(B)(4)
