Hello Friends,

I have a quick question and it has probably been answered in the past. So here it is.

Do junction boxes mounted behind Solar Panel on the roof, that may or not require maintenance, subject to working clearances established by Article 110.26? Not only is the junction box located behind Solar panels on the roof, but to get to it, you have to displace one or two Solar Panels, which can be very dangerous if working on a roof with a high pitch? These junction boxes have a NEMA 3 or better rating, they are Water Tight, and designed for Exposed Wet Location. Thank You for your input

the requirement is "accessible" not "readily accessible", so removing panels is not an issue.

Yes I agree. NEC 2017 690.34 addresses the question. Although I have a problem with displacing panels on high pitch roofs. Maybe future revisions of the NEC will provide verbiage, to avoid panels falling from high pitch roofs while attempting to access the junction boxes behind the panels.

Thanks for your input.

MJ
