This is a follow-up to a thread titled Commercial Work Questions. I'm bidding on wiring a commercial tenant space that is being converted to a PT facility. The issue is whether or not to classify the space as a Health Care Facility and wire in accordance with Article 517. I have asked the AHJ for a determination on this and after taking the weekend to think about it he has decided it does not fall under 517. This assumes there is no plan to hook customers up to electric equipment. Things like treadmills are not a problem, but as an example, machines that send electrical impulses into muscles (called what?) are a problem. AHJ is going to require a letter from the PT business that says they do not plan to have patient care areas as defined by 517.
