Pin and Sleeve Question

This is my first time using a Pin & Sleeve combination and was looking and the product online and noticed there's a Plug, Receptacle, and Connector.. This will probably sound dumb but.. My question is what is the Connector for? and will I need one.. Or is the Connector just a female end for a cord?

Just slightly confused..
