This is an interesting device , its an electronic scale (by Scalex) with a wheel on the end of it,that allows you to measure from point A to point B on a blue print or any type of plan. Used one for about 6 hrs doing an estimate it worked great even allows you to count boxes ect. in a condit run.
I'm going to get one in the very near future, just learned the Excel program and I love the way it calculates actual costs to quantity needed ect. ect. (feel free with pointers on the program).
Haven't used this device with a computor interface, They sell it with or withuot
Q1 - Does any-one know if the unit will work with the excell program ?
and
Q2 - cant seem to find this thing for less than $149.95 with interface.

Looking for your input , Thanks in Advance,
Mike-- Det. Mich

Re: Plan Wheel

A1- Yes it should work with Excel as long as you have the interface.
edit: I never used a Scalex just a Scale Master by Calculated Industries.

A2-Suck it up. That's what it costs. It takes money to make money. Search and you may find a better price, but not much lower.

Re: Plan Wheel

you can still buy scale wheels that are non computer/non-electric, just architects or engineers' scale wheels. My dad had two.

With any rolling scaler you have to be careful that the wheel stays in contact with the paper while rolling.

I have never had any accuracy problems with the Scale Master.

Re: Plan Wheel

Mike I use the plan wheel and am very happy with it. If there is a measurment that I need to be exact I will use my ruler, but for taking off branch circuit and feeders the plan wheel is fine. I picked mine up at a drafting place off of John R in Troy I think.

Re: Plan Wheel

Hey chrisb , -- I was there and was concerned that it works with with excel. If you read this - Do you know if this unit works with excel? If not others say it should.
Thanks for the input, Mike-- Romeo, MI

Re: Plan Wheel

They both can output to Excel provided you buy them with the interface. The only drawback, and it's a big one if you are taking off a large job with multiple sheets - When you send your count or length to Excel, the next roll in that same category (or cell) will overwrite the previous one. That is, there isn't any way to do a cumulative takeoff. (At least I haven't found it. Exel guru's please chime in here).
