Hello Guys, I need to know if there is a code requirement for my situation.
I am moving a few switches in a commercial building. The existing boxes are metal, mounted on metal studs in drywall. Can I use plastic single switch boxes with the flip clips while the cable type is flexible MC. Or must I use the metal switch box and Madison bars? Thanks, Mefalk

Stay with steel boxes. Plastic boxes aren't designed for use with MC. See article 314.3.

Thanks Tom, I should go with my instincts, Metal with proper connector. Thanks for the back up. Mefalk

Yeah but the two exceptions in 314.3 that would allow the use of a non metallic box would be not worth the trouble.

Just depends on what you're doing. Sometimes your hand is forced. For instance, there's no other product on the market at the moment for installation in a fire rated assembly in an old work application other than the Arlington One Box.

While there are many knowledgeable electrical professionals on this site I feel compelled to nominate Marc as Mr Electric in the vein of the 50's TV show Mr Science. He has an answer for everything.
