plastic bushings?

what minimum trade size in emt requires a plastic bushing? the code book says that a conduit that has a # 4 or larger wire shall have a bushing. is there no minimum conduit size anymore?

Rule of thumb around here 1" and up for EMT. But common sense should tell you if you are running 1/2" GRS that you need a bushing.

See 300.4(F)
(F) Insulated Fittings. Where raceways containing ungrounded conductors 4 AWG or larger enter a cabinet, box enclosure, or raceway, the conductors shall be protected by a substantial fitting providing a smoothly rounded insulating surface, unless the conductors are separated from the fitting or raceway by substantial insulating material that is securely fastened in place.

That's been our practice. For example, if I leave the sheath on a piece of service cable as it runs through a nipple bewteen meter and disconnect, the AHJ doesn't require bushings.

Larry, since a nipple is a raceway how would this not be a violation?
