Installed an electronic low voltage dimmer in an exisiting 2 gang box in someone's kitchen yesterday.

The other device is a GFI recp. made by Levition.

The dimmer is a Maestro made by Lutron.

Went to put the plate back on, it didn't fit.

The side fins are still on because I don't want to derate the switch.

They both fit nicely in the box anyway.

Does a standard plate not suppose to fit?

Should I be using another type of plate?

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the opening for the Maestro too small? I've encountered this with Cooper plates in the past, though I have always been able to "shave" the inside to make it work. How close to not fitting is it?

Try the Middle size covers or the larger size cover. They seem to fit better, more room on back side of cover for those devices that are a little bigger,(GFIC, drimmers )

Then use a higher-rated dimmer that will still handle the load with some fins removed.

.

Why not? What is the load?

This is just something you learn through the years. I know a dimmer will not fit with a GFCI unless I remove the fins on one side. And now you do to. It has nothing to do with the plate.
